Medical environments in hospitals present proven risks for viral and microbial spread. Contamination can occur between patients and staff via surfaces such as floors, walls, furniture and even care materials and equipment. To eliminate all risks of propagation, potential sources of nosocomial infection, and to ensure the health of both staff and patients, the most effective decontamination possible is essential.
Vigitechnics, a French manufacturer of aerosol surface disinfection equipment, markets the TwinCruiser VGF decontamination robot (and its TwinCruiser LC version). It complies with current health standards: T72-281 (2014), NF T72-281 (2009) and NF EN 14348.
This automated device has been designed to thoroughly sanitise premises, spaces and surfaces in health care establishments such as hospitals, clinics and, by extension, analytical laboratories, dental or veterinary practices. It uses Oxygen Peroxide (H2O2) as a biocide, supplemented if necessary, by Ozone to purify the air: a complementary treatment to be considered in view of Covid 19 propagation risks (aerosols and droplets) in enclosed spaces. It is also adapted to the ambulance disinfection cleaning protocol.

In France, these principles are defined in the FAQ (frequently asked questions) available on the National Institute for Research and Security INRS (Institut National de Recherche et de Sécurité) website. On the one hand, the ASD is not an air disinfection process, but a surface disinfection process that must be implemented without any human presence « using a robot spraying a disinfection product » as is the case with the TwinCruiser VGF and LC which can be programmed remotely to commence operation at a specific time.
On the other hand, the device and product combination « must meet the tests described in the NF T72-281 standard to claim activity on micro-organisms ». Any bacteria and viruses present on all elevated surfaces, as well as in less accessible corners, are effectively eliminated. The environment in which patients are received, cared for… and the working environment in general is then healthy. As recommended by the INRS, any ASD must be carried out with the ventilation switched off. This must be reactivated according to the contact time of the biocide and the time recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
